Sandra Choate is a mosaic and textile artist who turns up-cycled, vintage materials into eclectic and whimsical mosaic assemblages and wearable art. Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, she relocated to the Columbia River Gorge in 2006 and currently resides in Goldendale, WA. Starting out as a theater major, Sandra went on to professional costuming at Sacramento Music Circus, the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, and various small community theaters. Her love of theater combined with a passion for collecting all things vintage led to her work as a mosaic artist. Not wanting to toss out the inevitable broken bits of vintage china, she saved them all. In 2010 she met Gorge mosaic artist Toms Royal and studied with him for two years. After that, she developed her own unique style of mosaic art, using scavenged and vintage ceramic pieces with almost no new material. Sandra sees her art as a vehicle for telling stories. Sometimes humorous, sometimes dream-like, often with mythical themes, it's always telling a story.

You can find Sandra most days at her antique store and art studio, Monkeyshines Studio and Gallery, 514 S. Columbus Ave, Goldendale, Washington.
